- Subject : [ArellanoHi58] A WONDERFUL DAY TO REMEMBER :
- WEST COAST AHS58 MINI-REUNION
- MY CLOSE ENCOUNTER for one day OF THE AHS '58 CLASS...
- West Coast Mini - Reunion
- Above picture is Pier 41 at Fisherman's Wharf on Jefferson and Powell Streets.
This was our meeting place. Transportation will be available at 1:00 p.m.
- While I was waiting at this appointed place, I saw Flordeliza Domingo and a
while later,Jose Vilar, Betty Garcia, and Delicia Calbes. Then, Juanita Olmedo.
We received word that the rest of the group were gathered somewhere in the
area. We took snap shots. Here are some of them:
- But due to the busy traffic we had to go several blocks to gather where our
vans and cars are parked
- Now you can see us all gathered ready to board the transport vehicles.
Others are not visible because they are taking pictures of the group.
[L to R] above: Remy Nicasio, Carmelita Eugenio, Flordeliza Domingo,
Guillermo Narvacan, Juanita Olmedo, Edith Echiverri, Nonilon
Sarmiento, Delicia Calbes, Betty L. Garcia, Jose "Pepe" Vilar, Jess
Nazareth. Not seen in the picture but with the group: Ephraim Roxas,
Danny and Evelyn Lopez, Jovita Vilar, Wilma Narvacan, and Ed Garcia.
- Soon enough we were on our way to the Golden Gate Bridge. The traffic
was getting heavier but we were enjoying our sight seeing trip and nice
conversations. Finally we arrived at the Golden Gate Bridge.
We parked our vans and cars. The group walked the path closer to view
the Golden Gate Bridge.
- Just as soon as we had a full view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the group
decided to pose for picture-taking. You can see Jose "Pepe" Vilar waving
for others to join the pose. Others are ready to take candid pictures
regardless. Look at Nonilon Sarmiento all set for the picture, while
Flordeliza Domingo seems to be looking at Remedios Nicasio. Jess
Nazareth seems to be hesitant whether to take pictures with his camera
or just stay. While Jovita Vilar, Juanita Olmedo, and Delicia Calbes were
all smiles ready for the picture-taking.
- Above picture [L to R] starting from the back: Jose and Vita Vilar, Nonilon
Sarmiento, Juanita Olmedo, Flordeliza Domingo, Delicia Calbes, (? can't
identify the person on the back), Remedios Nicasio and Jess Nazareth.
- It was windy and cold that afternoon. Inspite of the weather everyone
enjoyed posing for pictures. Here are some of the shots I took:
- [L-R] Carmelita, Flordeliza, Delicia, Betty, Remedios, Edith and Juanita...SMILE!
- After the sight-see and group picture-taking at Golden Gate Bridge, we
board our transportation and drove to Sausalito. Walk around this quaint
town and have ice cream. The picture above shows the group resting
waiting for the other members and had fun chatting telling stores and
certain issues...funny issues......hehehehe. ..well. This particular pose was
minutes before we drove to dinner at Daimo Restaurant, at 3288A Pierce
Street, Richmond in Greater San Francisco area.

Subject: [ArellanoHi58] San Francisco Mini-Reunion
Dear Classmates:
Beautiful words elude me to describe to you feelings of great happiness and sincere friendship that enveloped us during the past two days. I can just say, it was so wonderful to see everyone! You will find more details in e-mail from Noni Sigothaga and Jess Nazareth.
I want to say a special thank you to the following persons who, without their all-out support and sincerity, this mini-reunion would not have happened:
(1) Noni and Juanita - may your love for each other forever glow.
(2) Danny and Evelyn - your warmth, generosity and graciousness is inspiring.
(3) Edith Echiverri - thank you for your continuing guidance.
(4) Jess Nazareth - your willingness to help without hesitation is admirable.
(5) Eddy Garcia, my roommate - for his patience and understanding when I spend hours on the computer and the telephone, and no dinner warming on the stove.
And last, but not at all least, to our dear classmates who came from far and near to join with us in this get-together: Lita Eugenio (Washington, DC); Pepe and Vita Vilar (Philadelphia) ; Nelson and Betsy Reyes (Virginia); Jun and Wilma Narvacan (Houston); Ephraim "Eping" Roxas (Oregon); Remy Nicasio Marciales (Las Vegas); and Flor Domingo Godfrey (Turlock, California).
We missed Dely Miravite and Letty and Brig Pascual who were not able to attend for health reasons. We pray for your speedy recovery.
A special thanks to Mrs. Charito Misa for opening her lovely home to the AHS Class of 1958.
Thanks to you all, from the bottom of my heart.
Adieu, arrivederci, sayonara,
See you all on February 9, 2008.
With much affection --- Betty (Liberty) Libay

Subject: [ArellanoHi58] West Coast MinI Reunion
The mini west coast reunion turned to be success!
First day May 26 - Everybody met by the Hyatt Hotel in Fishermans Wharf. What a wonderful day to see the excitement of everybody upon seeing each other again. We can hardly wait to record this special day for every body brough out their cameras and started taking everybody's picture. From there we proceeded to the famous Golden Gate Bridge then to the famous tourist little town of Sausalito. Afterwards, everybody proceeded towards downtown San Francisco to the famous San Francisco China town. We skipped going through the crookedest street located in Lombard St in San Francisco for it was too steep and everybody decided to proceed to Ricmond, California and dined at Daimo Restaurant where we reserved two tables. It was Danny's wife, Evelyn, who ordered all the food since she is more knowledgeable in chinese dishes- Fried Squab, fresh steamed fish, Mongolian Beef, Calamari, Lobster and etc. Food was so good but we ordered too much that some left over have to be taken out.. Former Arellano teacher Mrs. Charito Misa and her husband John (fom El Cerrito, California), Nelson and Betsy Reyes (from Maryland) and Betty Garcia's two special guest from the area came and joined us to the dinner.
Nelson and Pepe Villar, who were two good friends in those days, hugged tight upon seeing each other and started with their favorite subject in their time--Girls! Girls! Girls! and the memorable stupid adventures from back then. Danny Lopez, Nelson Reyes, Pepe Villar, Jun Narvacan and Noni with their partners dominated most of the conversation in our table. Dely Calbes Asimont, Mrs Misa, Juanita Lerma. Lita Eugenio, Efren Rojas, Edith Echiverri and Remy Nicasio were all exchanging pleasanties in the other table. More picture taking followed soon.
After dinner, we then proceeded to Mrs. Misa's house who lives about 10 minutes away from the place. Here more food were served but were mostly dessert like puto, bibingka, kalamay, biko and drinks. Everybody gathered for a liitle prayer to thank the Lord for this wonderful day. Then, Betty Garcia brouht out copies of the Alma Mater's song and we all started singing. Dely Calbes and Mrs. Misa made the group entertained with their common sense approach in handling daily stressful subject-- MEN and SEX! Dely even let us entertaines with her operatic voice with short rendition of Kundiman songs.
Second day, May 27- We met at the same area. We ventured around the Fishermans Wharf in Pier 41, Pier 39, Aquarium and took more snapshots with Alcatras Island, San Francisco Bay, Aquarium by the bay and the memorable spots as our backgound. Then we dined at Foghorn Restaurant where the beautiful bay is in full view. Each one ordred their own favorite dishes and more exciting old adventures and interesting subjects discussed.
Afterwards, Danny Lopez and his wife left to proceed to their other commitments. Betty and Ed catched their flight at the Oakland International Airport after giving them a ride by Noni. Remy, Noni, Juanita, Lita Eugenio, PepeVillar and his wife Vita and myself proceeded to Sonoma county and visited Dely Calbes Asimont and husband Lee at their house in Healdsburg. We arrived at their fantastic house at about 6:00 pm.
Dely and Lee seved us snacks and finally dinner where we sampled Dely and her daughter's specialties- Steak, barbecues fish, Sushi, special Sausages and wine with mango and watermelon for dessert. It was during this visit that Dely sang for us and have us listen to the CD songs of her with her sister Eleanor Calbes who was one the reknowned singer in Toronto , Canada. We played more Kundiman songs as requested by Lita Eugenio. Dely and Lee were such a good host that we stayed at their place until 10:00 pm.
I may not be able to descibe all the details better than some of our classmates that participated in this occasion who may wish to relate their experiences through further emails but to compensate for my shortcoming I am including some attachments as shown below.

- Caloocan Mayor) of Orange County

- and the surprise of the reunion!!!! (drum rolls please - ta ta ta ta....ta ta ta ta ta
- da dada....) non other than the strong willed, positive attitude - the brain and beauty,
- the valedictorian of 58 graduates Remy Nicasio Marciales - flew all the way from
- Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ito ay sa aking pananaw, kuro-kuro at pansariling pananalita lamang. This is Taglis - Sabi nga ni bespren (became instant endearment of the group) Danny, 'kasi yang ni Nonilon although from Bulacan, grabe ang accent nuong high school '. Sagot ko naman, hanggang ngayon at magpakailan pa man. Sagot ng English teacher ko na si bespren Libay, APRUB.
Sa araw na ito (May 28) nag-tapos ang three nights and two days West-Coast mini-reunion ng class '58 of our beloved Arellano High School. Held in San Francisco, California USA. Bakit kamo three nights. Kasi, on May 25 Friday night, the day most of the participants arrived, per suggestion of Danny Lopez, we had dinner in "Scomas Restaurant at SF Fisherman's Wharf. Take note, this is KKB not KBB (this night, the group realized that we are all flexible. One's idea and decision, if it make sense is APRUB instantly o di ba? bow....). However, the red wine was the courtesy of Danny and the beautiful wife and outstandingly nice Evelyn. And the white wine is the courtesy of the husband and wife Doctors, Dr. Delicia Calbes Asimont and the good looking and fantastically nice Dr. Lee Asimont.
The only absent in the dinner were Carmelita who has previous engagement in OPUS DEI SF, Ephraim Roxas who is to be picked up by Danny from SF Intl airport, and Remy who was to surprise us the First day (Saturday) of the affair to remember.
The dinner started on time at 6:30 pm. and ended almost midnight. Then, everyone walk in the cold, chilly night of San Francisco by the bay, their hotels being just around the corner in Fisherman's Wharf. The Sheraton, the Best Western and the Marriot and the Beresford. Hmmm. madatung talaga ang mga ito. Pepe is staying in the Filipino Town of Daly City where the fog is due to the Pinoys cooking rice at the same time. While Nelson (the James Dean of class '58) and Betsy is staying with their daughter who just delivered their first Apo - Kiran, meaning light of life in Sanskrit.
And the locals in their respective houses and love nest (?) you know?
Day one- May 26, which in actuallity is day 2? - A sunny Saturday yet, windy and chilly. A truly San Francisco treat. Meeting place is in Pier 41 (Jefferson and Powell streets) infront of Ben's and Jerry's Ice Cream Parlor. Not Sweden Ice Cream in Samson Annex infront of Halili Building - Okay?
Not that we had Filipino time. No. It's because the Wharf and the adjacent Pier 39 is elbow to elbow with torres. Oopps... there goes my accent again. I mean Tourist. Danny says..."See? see? now, do you believe me"? Therefore, the one o'clock departure to Golden Gate Bridge became almost 2:30pm.
The surprise of the day is the arrival of Remy who was picked from SF airport by Danny early that day. So when Danny opens the door of his white Tahoe SUV, there goes Remy amidst the shouting of the Arellanites not mindful of the onlooking tourist. Kaya nga Taglis, yong wrong English bahala na kayong mag-correct. No hard feelings from the author. The screams became louder when Flordeliza Domingo showed up with her friend who drove her from Turlock, California. The guys clamored to see her famous beautiful legs which she bashfully and politely rejected to show. But with a promise to do it in 2008. O di ba?
On we went to The world famous Golden Gate Bridge painted in orange. Jess Nazareth picked the good panoramic view of the bridge for kodakan blues. First, all '58 grads. Then with spouses, friends and sigoths. The solos, twos, threes, boys only, girls only and many more different poses. Danny says,"watch out Noni will put his arm around Juanita for sure". And yes, I did. Applause. Applause. Applause. But the next photo, Danny was dissappointed kasi, this time Juanita did. O buti nga. Belat.
It was really, really cold and windy. So after the photo shoot everybody went to their respective cars. Danny's SUV, Jess Hybrid and the rented 12 seater van driven by Nonilon. At this point, Juanita is distributing chicken empanada from Red Ribbon Pepe yelled for panulak. Vita says okay I will tulak you to the bridge. Applause. Nonilon, gave H2O to everyone.
The Van and the Tahoe SUV proceeded to Sausalito, whereas the Hybrid with Libay and Eddie, went back to Pier 41 to drop off Flordeliza Domingo who went with us for picture taking only. She has to be back to Turlock, kasi I think the biyenan will go to her house?
At 6:30 in the evening, the three cars, met in DAIMO CHINESE RESTAURANT in Richmond, California for dinner. Wow, sarap. Evelyn, Vita and Carmelita did the ordering of the food. Kodakan blues again. Hindi matigil ang kuwentuhan. Ang sarap kasing magreminisce ng high school days. The top story of the dinner is pakitahan ng pictures of mga apos. Ako naman siempre nakiki-apo na rin sa mga apo ni Juanita. Ganon eh. Problema ba yon?
After the dinner, we drove to Charito Misa's house which is about three minutes away, for Filipino dessert of puto kutsinta, bibingka, cassava cake, leche flan and biko. Kuwentuhan and picture taking galore. Delicia did an impromptu acapella singing. And it's a big WOW. Pepe and the rest voted for 10. A singing Doctor. Or a Doctor Soprano. A basta magaling talagang kumanta si Delicia. Period.
Almost midnight when we broke off the dessert party. Ang hirap maghiwa-hiwalay. Siempre Filipino style. Uuwi na pero paalaman ng paalaman, wala namang umaalis. Finally, we forced ourselves to go kasi nga its is getting late and we have another schedule tomorrow the 27th.
O sya. Bukas naman kasi, matutulog ako ng maaga ngayon I still have to work tomorrow.
ABANGAN - ITUTULOY
Word of wisdom from Mrs. Misa - Enjoy today, for tomorrow might not come.
The sender is in the from box. Okay ngarud?
